Lancashire village could double in size with new building scheme
A Lancashire village is set to almost double in size following a decision by Ribble Borough Council not to contest plans to build 190 homes.
The council has confirmed that it will not oppose the Whalley Road development in Barrow, due to be contested at an appeal in early November.
It follows a decision by Lancashire County Council’s highways department to withdraw concerns over the impact of increased traffic connected to the Barrow Lands Company Ltd project.
The county council changed its stance following the approval of the 260 homes at the ‘Lawsonsteads’ site in neighbouring Whalley which includes a link road.
The decision has attracted strong criticism from residents’ groups opposed to the development.
Terry Hill, chairman of Ribble Valley Borough Council’s planning and development committee, said: “If the plans were re-submitted in their modified state, they would almost certainly be recommended for approval.
“The principal objections to the original scheme have been resolved and committee is now minded not to defend the appeal.”
