Kevan's a Real Diamond

Everyone who works with JK Property Consultants’ Kevan Carrick knows he’s a diamond, but now it’s official.

Kevan, JK Property’s principal, has scooped Diamonds Are Forever Award at this year’s Percy Hedley Alternative Business Awards – the night when the North East’s business community has the chance to let its hair down, laugh at itself and raise money for a great cause at the same time.

The Diamonds Are Forever Award is presented to someone who has been delivering the goods for their business for the region for a long time.

Kevan said: “I’m honoured to win the Diamonds Are Forever Award, because I know these awards are some of the most hotly contested in the region, even if they are tongue in cheek!

“It’s always a fantastic and fun night at the Percy Hedley Alternative Business Awards, and this year the event raised £18,000 to support the Foundation’s work with disabled people around the North East. A brilliant result all round.”

With 2014 being the Foundation’s Diamond Jubilee, the sparkling theme was used in all the awards categories, which included such gems as Lucy in the Sky and Jack of Diamonds. Entertainment – of a sort – was provided by the Opportunity Knackered Talent contest which was won by the team from the Leighton Group with their karaoke version of Paul Simon’s Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes.

Julie Calvert, head of marketing, communications and income generation at The Percy Hedley Foundation, said: “These awards not only give people the chance simply to unleash their inner entertainer, or show off in front of their colleagues, but to let their hair down and enjoy themselves with people who are more friends than just clients or fellow board members.”

The night of fun and frolics at The Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre was hosted by comedian Brendan Healy and Magic 1152 Radio’s Anna Foster.
