Media academy relocates with high Hope

Merseyside property group Downing has secured a significant 17, 500 sq. ft. letting on Hope Street – with Liverpool Media Academy taking over all five upper floors of Federation House.

The leading media, music and performing arts college offers a range of BTEC and HND qualifications, and opened its doors to students at its third campus, Federation House in September this year.

LMA, which was founded by brothers, Richard and Simon Wallace, will offer a variety of courses designed and delivered by industry professionals with projects linked to industry through media, music and performing arts partners; enabling students to gain valuable real-world experience.

Downing’s Head of Property Management, John Clegg, is looking forward to seeing the building come to life as students begin their courses.

He said: “We’re delighted to welcome LMA to Hope Street. This is an exciting proposition and we wish the academy the very best of luck.

“Federation House is a great building in a vibrant, cultural location with a rich heritage in the Arts. The building is a stone’s throw from the Everyman Theatre and next door to Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, and should provide a perfect home for LMA.

“Its layout is also perfectly suited for a college, with great views of the city and column-free floor plates which will offer a great teaching and learning environment,” he said.

Richard Wallace said: “As a college, we are delighted to be working with property giants Downing, this is now our third campus in Liverpool and we know we are certainly in safe hands. We offer our students the best facilities in the best locations on Merseyside, allowing them to be creative and express themselves in a safe environment.”

The first floor of Federation House was, for a time, the Liverpool Design Centre and the building’s distinctive faux-Aztec cladding was designed by William Mitchell, who also designed the Catholic cathedral’s sculpted bell-tower and intricate main doors.
