Unique new legal services for businesses launched by Neurosupport
Neurosupport and the Walton Centre team up to offer patients and families early access to information and support to manage the practical issues that face people once they have a diagnosis of a neurological condition or brain injury.
Liverpool-based charity Neurosupport now have two link staff based at the Walton Centre and are now also able to provide access to free legal advice on a range of issues affecting people with neurological conditions, their carers, employers and businesses through their newly formed legal panel.
On October 9 at 2pm and 5.30pm at Neurosupport headquarters on Norton Street, the charity will formally launch the partnership with Walton and its new legal advice panel to service users, charities, case managers and rehabilitation organisations and other interested parties.
Neurosupport Chief Executive Maureen Kelly, said: “We are very pleased to be working more closely with the Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust to ensure that their patients are aware of and able to access our services at the earliest opportunity. Services include; advice on welfare benefits, accessing care at home, signposting to support groups and, when required, referring patients to our panel of carefully selected law firms.”
In order to deliver the best advice, the charity has done a lot of research and teamed up with legal firms Canter Levin and Berg, Fentons, GLP, Pannone and Slater and Gordon, who all have good track records and expertise in dealing with Neurosupport’s client group.
“We have been through a very detailed vetting process with these firms to identify work they have done previously with individuals experiencing neurological conditions,” said Maureen. “We have checked their credentials and done everything we can to make sure these firms can offer the type of support and advice we want to provide. This is an advice service, no-one will be forced to use a specific legal firm or take a particular course of action. But we will be able to offer high quality, easy to understand information whether you have a neurological condition and need help, you are assisting a sufferer or you need advice as an employer.”
Neurosupport was established to provide non-medical support for people suffering from neurological conditions and brain injuries, their families, friends and carers 21 years ago. Experienced in the field, the charity has seen first-hand the difficulties users face when trying to secure or retain work, access welfare benefits or interact with the legal system.
It has also recognised the problems employers and the legal profession often have to overcome when attempting to help or manage people with often very complex conditions. The Neurosupport legal panel will offer advice on employment issues, welfare benefits, family advocacy, personal injury, medical negligence, housing issues, wills and probate and the Court of Protection.
Neurosupport is already working with Jobcentre Plus, Shaw Trust, and Access to Work to support people with their employment issues, welfare benefits and legal advice and are currently supporting people who are employed at The Tribunal Service, the Countess of Chester Hospital , Asda, and many other places of work.
At the launch Neurosupport hopes to meet more service users, businesses and legal firms that want to get involved.
