College course changes mum’s life

Mum-of-two Mandy Frost is the latest Middlesbrough College student to join Teesside’s business community.

The 43-year-old spent 25 years as a travel agent, sorting flights and hotels so holidaymakers could go and relax in the sun.

She’s still helping people relax, but now it’s on a therapy couch and she’s easing their aches and pains with a range of treatments.

Mandy launched Mandy Frost Sports Massage Therapy after completing a Level Three Sports Massage course at Middlesbrough College.

Lecturer Ivan Whitfield said: “It’s an intensive course that provides students with the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to work in an unsupervised capacity as a sports massage practitioner.

“Subjects covered include anatomy and physiology, nutrition, classification of sports injuries and the stages of healing.”

Mandy has joined a growing number of Middlesbrough College students who have started their own businesses, shaping their own futures and helping to boost the local economy.

Middlesbrough College is a member of the Gazelle Colleges Group – a group that promotes and supports the spirit of entrepreneurship, encouraging students to be innovative, resilient, enterprise-aware and confident enough to achieve personal, social and economic success.

Mandy, from Acklam in Middlesbrough, said: “I’ve learned such a lot and been able to change my life because of the course.

“The treatments can benefit anyone, from athletes to office workers.

“Massage helps sportsmen and women maximise their performance during competitions, reduces their recovery time and can help prevent injury.

“It’s also a great stress reliever for the rest of us and can ease the everyday aches and pains caused by repetitive use of muscle and tissue.”

Mandy is providing mobile treatments across the region and holds a clinic every Monday morning at North Yorkshire Physiotherapy in Stokesley.

She’s now about to start the Level Four Sports Massage Therapy course at Middlesbrough College which is designed to help Osteopaths, Physiotherapists, Sports Therapists and Massage Practitioners advance their understanding of massage techniques and their effect on body and mind.
