North East firms instructed on how to deal with contaminated land
Remedios, the brownfield consultancy firm recently acquired by Esh Group, is holding a free seminar ofr North East businesses on how to deal with contaminated land.
Professor Graeme Paton of the University of Aberdeen and Remedios will lead the session, as an expert in soil science, environmental science and environmental microbiology.
The event is being held in conjunction with Constructing Excellence in the North East many of whose members and contacts are tasked with seeking and implementing remediation solutions.
Catriona Lingwood, chief executive of Constructing Excellence in the North East said: “We are very pleased to be holding this important seminar as an introduction to dealing with contaminated land. We are delighted that Professor Paton will lead the event by setting the scene with a short, sharp yet detailed presentation. In particular we’ll be examining how remediation works with developers in mind and will give a number of case studies in which sustainable technologies have been used.
“We’ll also be taking a close look at the role of the regulator in order to understand better what they expect before, during and remediation of contaminated land.”
Gavin Black, Chairman of Remedios added: “The economics of remediation are paramount in designing and recommending the most suitable solution for any given site. As part of the meeting we’ll explore a guide to technologically-proven sustainable, cost effective solutions which are suitable in to our changing economic circumstances.
“We’ll also be looking at techniques which include on site and off site bioremediation, chemical treatments and natural attenuation. These are highly practical methods all of which can avoid the high costs and taxes usually associated with traditional digging and dumping.”
The seminar is being held in Newcastle’s Centre for Life on Thursday October 24.
