Guests enjoy learning how to make money by heating their property at Netherwitton Hall showcase event

Despite the cold snap we’re currently experiencing in the North East, visitors to Netherwitton Hall were kept warm last week at a showcase event demonstrating the Estate’s newly installed Biomass Boilers. The event was organised by North East based The Wood Heating Company (TWHC) and Mr John Trevelyan, owner of Netherwitton Hall and Estate.

Guests were taken on a guided tour of the Netherwitton Estate and shown the capabilities and benefits of the twin 99kW wood chip boilers that Mr Trevelyan has installed to provide efficient, environmentally sustainable heating to properties on the estate and to capitalise on the Renewable Heating Incentive (RHI) scheme.

The scheme, which is currently available to non-domestic customers, aims to encourage users to replace existing fossil fuel-fired heating systems such as oil, coal and gas with one of the supported renewable technologies and offers a cash incentive for the generation of heat from renewable sources. A domestic scheme is set to launch in Spring 2014 which will see homeowners able to take advantage of the scheme too. “The opportunity for homeowners to receive an income from heating their own homes is a very exciting prospect” said Simon Cross, Commercial Director of the Wood Heating Company.

Guests were then treated to lunch and had the opportunity to question Mr Trevelyan and Simon Cross about all aspects of the scheme and its technology and there were certainly questions galore!

Mr Andrew Merriam said of the day “It was fascinating to see how a historic estate could be heated efficiently by a biomass system and the fact that you can get paid to do it makes it a very attractive proposition”. Another attendee, Mr Nicolas Weatherington added, “Although the cost of installing a biomass boiler system is significant, the RHI scheme means that they can effectively pay for themselves within a reasonable time”

It is hoped that this will be the first of many showcase events in the region and The Wood Heating Company are keen to hear from anyone who would be interested in taking part in any future events.

Simon Cross said “We were delighted that so many people came along and of course, hugely grateful to John and Anne-Marie Trevelyan for allowing us the use of their home for the day! The feedback that we have received from the guests has been extremely positive and we are hoping that this event will pave the way for future events. It’s great to see the north east leading the way in biomass heating”
