Utilitywise entrepreneur to reveal "warts and all" story to North East manufacturers

The electrifying story of an energy-saving multi-national’s rapid rise from a staff of four to almost 600 is to be told in detail – by the entrepreneur who created it.

Science graduate Geoff Thompson is to give an illuminating insight into how he turned Utilitywise into a multi-million pound international business in just seven years – as well as a ‘warts and all’ look back at his career.

He hopes to both entertain and inspire when he speaks to members of the South Tyneside Manufacturing Forum (STMF) at its new base within the £5.4m One Trinity Green business centre in South Shields onWednesday, 23 October.

Chief executive officer Mr Thompson, 51, gained specific energy experience while supporting energy supply companies to acquire new customers via a range of marketing approaches. He used his knowledge to establish Utilitywise, at Team Valley, Gateshead in 2006. It listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) of the London Stock Exchange in June 2012.

It is now one of the leading business energy and water consultancies in the UK, employing around 570 people at its headquarters at Long Row, South Shields.

Utilitywise provides professional outsourced consultancy services covering utility procurement, energy and water monitoring, carbon reduction schemes, Ecofit product installation and project management. It boasts a diverse client portfolio which ranges from single site high street shops to multinationals with thousands of sites across the UK and Ireland. Its teams also sell into the French and German markets.

Mr Thompson’s speech is one of two focusing on Utilitywise at the Ward Hadaway-sponsored event. The other is by Yashin Sarnaik, the firm’s partner channel director, who will talk about how Utilitywise can support manufacturing businesses.

The STMF event takes place from noon to 2.30pm at One Trinity Green, in Eldon Street, South Shields. To reserve a place please contact Kerryn Allan on 0191 481 3480 or email kerryn.allan@st-mf.co.uk
