Gateshead's Desserts on Wheels goes ATM marketing

A catering business in Gateshead has been selected in the North East to take part in a pilot scheme offering the opportunity to market their business on up to 50 Barclays ATMs in their customer catchment area.

Desserts on Wheels is one of 67 businesses in the UK which will showcase their business offering for two weeks to thousands of users who access Barclays ATMs. It is estimated that more than 350 million people use Barclays 3,400 ATMs located up and down the country each year to undertake banking services such as obtain free cash, checking their balance and obtaining mini statements.

The scheme is designed to give small and medium sized firms up and down the country a unique and innovative way to market their business and is one of a number of local initiatives Barclays has introduced to support and recognise the contribution SME customers make to the local economy.

Based in Gateshead, Desserts on Wheels makes a wide selection of delicious desserts which it delivers to surrounding areas.

Rachel McCabe, owner of Desserts on Wheels said: “This is a great idea and offers a small firm like ours a platform to raise the awareness of our brand while reaching out to a new local audience. It is one which I and other businesses really welcome and we would like to thank Barclays for involving us in this pilot and for their ongoing support for our business.”

Other Barclays initiatives supporting SMEs include ‘pop-up’ shops, back to business days and a free nationwide business seminar and workshop programme. These are designed to help business owners network and gain practical help on relevant challenges such as marketing, trading online or how to generate more business profits.

Rachel Allen, business manager for Barclays, South Shields and Washington added: “This ATM initiative is an ideal way in which we can help and support our customer’s marketing activity and I’m pleased that we have been able to offer a local trader the opportunity to take in the pilot. We are interested in hearing feedback from our customers to help measure the success of the scheme while we continue to look at ways in which Barclays can support the local business community.”

Desserts on Wheels will feature weeks commencing 29th October and 5th November 2013. The pilot concludes in November 2013 and if successful could be implemented more widely in 2014.
