Kaspersky Internet Security proves its reliability in independent testing

Kaspersky Lab today announces that Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 and Kaspersky Internet Security 2014, two versions of its flagship home consumer products, earned high scores in AV-TEST’s latest Bi-Monthly Certification. The products got 17 of a possible 18 points from the independent experts for their ability to counteract cyber-threats during the July - August testperiod.

The tests assessed three factors for each product: efficiency of malware detection, impact on regular computer performance and the number of false positives. Both Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 and Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 were tested as the timing of the test coincided with the launch of Kaspersky Internet Security 2014at the end of August. In total, 26 security solutions from leading market players took part in the AV-TEST testing. In the malware detection test, Kaspersky Lab’s products identified 100 per cent of the 19,500 malware samples chosen by the test organisation. The selected threats had all been seen in the wild within the four weeks prior to the test.

A further 125 new threats, not currently listed in the antivirus databases of the tested solutions, gave participants the chance to show how they could counter unknown malware. Over the course of the two months, Kaspersky Internet Security achieved 97.5 per cent effectiveness, against an industry average of 91 per cent.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 and Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 received the highest score in the Usability category, which includes the number of false positives. Kaspersky Lab products returned just three false positives compared to an industry average of seven.

In addition, Kaspersky Lab products scored 5.5 out of 6 in the Performance test which measures the product’s impact on PC performance. This was against an average score of 4 points. The overall test results saw Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 and 2014 earn the ‘Certified’ award.

Kaspersky Lab products regularly appear at the top end of antivirus rankings. In August, Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 successfully detected all threats in the Real-World Protection Test by the independent AV-Comparatives laboratory. In another test by the laboratory, the same product was able to block 99 per cent of phishing URLs – a result only one competitor solution could match.

A summary table with the results for all participants of the AV-TEST Bi-Monthly Certification July-August 2013 is available on the AV-TEST website.
