BIPB sponsors popular Stemettes ‘hackathon’

BIPB, the global business intelligence consultancy, has announced its sponsorship of the BIPB Stemettes Oxford Hack, due to take place at Christ Church College, Oxford on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th October.

Stemettes was set up to inspire the next generation of females into roles related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) via a series of panel events, hackathons, exhibitions, and mentoring schemes.

BIPB will be sponsoring the Oxford Hack, a weekend of big data related IT activities that will see attendees create an interactive data visualisation using industry tools including Qlikview – BIPB’s business intelligence tool. With the chance of winning prizes, on the final afternoon attendees will present their creations to the judging panel which is made up of Stemette supporters:

Sarah Bearchell - Science lady extraordinaire and STEM campaigner Hannah Curtis- BIPB New York, business intelligence Maria Sanchez - Digital marketing manager at O2

The event is open to women and girls aged from seven to 21.

Charles Radclyffe, CEO at BIPB said:

BIPB is committed to addressing a number of key issues facing the IT industry today, and that includes the lack of female representatives within the industry, since women currently account for just one in every five IT professionals. We’ve been very inspired by the work that the Stemettes have been doing to correct this imbalance, and therefore decided to join forces for the Oxford hackathon in order to help increase the likelihood of females choosing IT as a lifelong career.

We’re getting our whole business behind this initiative - as well as providing our Qlikview tool for attendees to use, we’re also bringing Hannah Curtis from our US team to help facilitate the weekend’s activities.“
