Dance City’s search for business stars to strengthen board

Dance City, the North East’s most influential dance organisation, is looking to appoint a number of outstanding team players to join its board and support the executive team.

Dance City has a mission to lead and support a thriving dance ecology in the North East of England, embracing professional dance, education, performance and participation.

Promoting the art form of dance is at the heart of Dance City’s mission. With over 70 public classes in more than 40 different styles every week, and catering for beginners through to professional dancers Dance City strives to make dance accessible to all.

Anthony Baker, artistic director of Dance City, said; “We are looking to recruit a number of Board members who will each play an important role in shaping the future of Dance City.

“We’re looking for people who can complement our existing board, who don’t necessarily need to have a background in dance or the arts but who can help us develop new ideas, drive forward strategy and decision making and bring experience and business acumen to the board.”

Dance City was formed in 1991 and has been based in a £7.6m purpose built dance house in Newcastle city centre since 2005. The organisation provides modern dance facilities, artist support, teaching and regular performances.

In addition, Dance City’s Learning Academy offers formal professional dance training, providing a route right through from aspiring dancers aged 11 through to MA level.

Dance City is National Portfolio Organisation of Arts Council England, meaning it is in receipt of regular funding for its work.
