Local businesses hear that the North East region is a business opportunity

Local business people met at The Vermont Hotel in Newcastle last Thursday evening to hear from James Ramsbotham, Chief Executive of the North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC), that the North East of England is a place to be confident in which to do business.

At the event, organised by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), those present heard Mr Ramsbotham talk about how the North East of England can be enabled to develop its true potential, offering vast opportunities for businesses to invest and grow.

In his presentation James explored many aspects of the challenges faced by the North East of England (NEE) and explained that far from being a problem for the rest of the country to solve, the North East is an asset that should be maximised on behalf of UK PLC. With the benefits of a space at transport hubs such as Newcastle airport, Tyne Port and Tees Port which are lacking in other parts of the UK, alongside both and energy and water surplus the region is well placed for future business expansion.

Barry Goddard, CIMA North East Coast Branch board member, ACMA, who attended the event said: “It was a fantastic talk from James who really made us see that local businesses should focus on the postitive aspects of the North East region and confidently support it nationally and internationally. This includes not only investing in the region itself but promoting it through the expansion of exports to the rest of the UK and the world.”

James Ramsbotham, Chief Executive of the North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC), joined the Chamber in 2006. The North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC) is the champion of business in the North East of England and promotes the interests of businesses throughout the region. Having almost 4,000 members, NECC delivers a range of business support services, especially training and international trade advice.

As well as his role as Chief Executive of the North East Chamber of Commerce, James has a raft of local roles and interests. He is a deputy lieutenant for County Durham; chairman of Darlington Building Society and honorary colonel for The Rifles Territorial Army in County Durham. He also gives time to Durham Cathedral, Business Durham and the Durham Light Infantry Museum.
