Lost long treasures sought to raise money for charity
People from across the region are being encouraged to scour their attics and root through their cupboards to uncover hidden treasures in support of a charity valuation day being held on 12th November at the Beaumont Hotel in Hexham by auctioneers Anderson and Garland.
Enthusiasts, collectors and those who may be unknowingly in possession of a valuable heirloom are invited to have their paintings, silver, jewellery, ceramics, small pieces of furniture, militaria, collectables, toys and books appraised by specialists from the auction house in exchange for a small donation in aid of Tynedale Hospice at Home.
The Hexham based charity provides in-home care to those in the Tynedale and West Northumberland region with life-limiting illnesses. For each appraisal that takes place, the team at Anderson and Garland is requesting a donation of £2 per item to support the valuable work undertaken by the specially trained staff and volunteers at the hospice.
Julian Thomson from auctioneers Anderson and Garland said: “For anyone who has wondered how much that painting which is hanging over the fireplace is worth or who has built up an interesting collection of items over the years and is keen to know their value, this event is the ideal opportunity for them to have their treasures appraised by our highly experienced team.
“Similarly we know there will be those who aren’t even aware that they may be harbouring a hidden gem so we are encouraging people to search their attics, cellars, cupboards and garages to see if they have any long-forgotten possessions. Not only could these items generate huge amounts of interest should they go to auction but in bringing them forward at our charity valuation day, they will help raise much-needed funds for a very well deserving local organisation.”
He continued: “Tynedale Hospice at Home enables people to be cared for in the comfort of their own homes surrounded by their friends, families and loved ones during a difficult time and the work that they do makes a huge difference. We are delighted to be able to support such a deserving charity and hope to not only raise money but also increase awareness of the important work that they do in the area.”
Brian Massey from Tynedale Hospice at Home added: “We are thrilled that Anderson and Garland has chosen to host this event in support of our work. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure the best care is given to individuals and loved ones during a hugely difficult point in their lives. We hope that everyone searches out their long-lost treasures and we are excited to see what discoveries are made.”
The charity valuation day takes place between 11am and 2pm on 12th November at the Beaumont Hotel, Beaumont Street in Hexham. Photographs of larger items will be viewed and home visits can be arranged. Items may be left for inclusion in forthcoming auctions.
