Local cake designer shortlisted for national award

A wedding cake designer from Gateshead has been shortlisted in a national wedding awards scheme.

Isabelle Bambridge, founder of The Designer Cake Company, is down to the final ten cake designers in the running to win the hitched.co.uk Breakthrough Awards 2013.

Isabelle started her career as a professional dancer with The Royal Ballet and then went on to work in PR for 15 years. While baking birthday cakes for family and friends, she soon discovered she had a secret talent for cake making. Since the company began in 2011, Isabelle has made a cake for golfer, Lee Westwood and been approached by Mulberry UK with a cake request after they saw one of her handbag cakes.

The hitched.co.uk Breakthrough Awards (HBAs) are run by the UK’s leading wedding website, hitched.co.uk to recognise new talent in the wedding industry. Sixty businesses (ten in each category) have been shortlisted by expert judges in six different categories: wedding cake design, wedding floristry, wedding stationery, wedding photography, wedding hair styling and honeymoon hotels. The 60 shortlisted have been narrowed down from hundreds of entries from all over the country with the editor of Wedding Cakes magazine, Jenny Royle, selecting the ten cake finalists.

Isabelle takes inspiration for her cakes from everyday things around her including flowers and fashion. She said “I like to take traditional ideas and give them a modern twist and most importantly, I aim for a flawless finish.

“You can take a very plain and simple design and make it sensational with an immaculate finish, which I believe is what sets me apart from others.”

To vote for Isabelle, simply go to www.hitched.co.uk/hba/vote before 5th November 2013.
