Bulldozers move in as Anfield Project progresses

Liverpool’s ambitious regeneration scheme, the Anfield Project, has progressed to a new phase, with demolition of several properties about to start.

Bulldozers are readying to demolish 42 vacant properties in the northern part of the city, on Baltic and Burnand Streets and 7 in Rockfield Road to prepare the way for creating a new Business Hub and open space to benefit the local area and its community.

This work follows the successful completion of an earlier phase of the Project which saw the demolition of over 150 vacant houses on nearby Hartnup Street, Donaldson Street, Granton Road, Salisbury Road and St Domingo Vale, which began in July.

The cleared land will be used to build more than 100 new social and private homes constructed by housing developer Keepmoat Ltd. The work is expected to commence late next year with a view to completion in two to three years’ time.

It is anticipated that registered social landlord Your Housing Group will take ownership of some of the properties for rental to tenants.

The £260m regeneration vision for Anfield was unveiled in June by a consortium led by Liverpool City Council with support from Your Housing Group, Liverpool Football Club and other partners including Keepmoat Ltd.

Councillor Ann O’Byrne, cabinet member at Liverpool City Council with responsibility for housing, said: “It’s fantastic to see the housing regeneration this area so desperately needs moving ahead. There are now schemes going on throughout Anfield which are changing the face of the area for good, so it’s a really exciting time for the community.

“This latest demolition work is part of our wider vision to build a brighter future for Anfield. Fantastic new and refurbished housing, supported by major environmental improvements, better shopping facilities, new offices and much more will create a vibrant, modern area and provide new opportunities for local people.”

David Wroe, new build managing director for Keepmoat North West, said: “We’re one step closer to constructing brand new, high quality, energy-efficient homes that people of Anfield have told us they want. There will be a mix of house types, which will appeal to families, young professionals and first time buyers and we will be keeping local residents informed of how this exciting new development is processing over the coming months.”
