Stagecoach find revenue growth in US Megabus operations

Bus and train operator Stagecoach say profitability has been “satisfactory” across its UK and North American operations.

The Perth-headquartered transport group has grown revenues 5% across its UK regional bus operations, but has struggled to find growth on its London routes.

A competitive New York sightseeing market has seen fares reduced on the group’s Twin America joint venture.

In a trading statement, Stagecoach said its most substantial growth was in the North American introduction of the Megabus format.

New services across California and Texas had helped to increase revenue of the division by 23.7%.

The firm said it had struggled to build on the increased business to its rail services brought on by last year’s Olympic Games but continued to discuss with the Department for Transport (DfT) the planned extensions to our South Western Trains and East Midlands Trains franchises.
