Conference aims to help grow low carbon sector

Companies in the Marches & Worcestershire growing environmental sector are being invited to a conference aimed at helping to develop their business and the region’s low carbon economy.

Guest speakers, including the BBC’s Countryfile presenter Tom Heap, will cover subjects as diverse as sustainability and digital marketing at the event in Worcester next month.

The Marches Environmental Technologies Network (metnet) is organising the annual conference which is free to attend to any business in the Marches areas of Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Worcestershire currently operating in the environmental sector or looking to diversify into it.

Project manager at metnet, Patricia Head, said: “The metnet conference is a chance for companies across the low carbon sector in our region to meet up, network and find out about potential opportunities which can help their business develop, innovate or become more competitive. It’s a one-stop-shop for them to catch up on current funding opportunities as well as take part in seminars and workshops which will be beneficial to their businesses.”

The metnet conference is being held on November 14 from 9.30am to 4pm, at the Worcestershire County Cricket Club, in New Road, Worcester.

Patricia said: “This year we have three fantastic guest speakers. Jae Mather is the Director of Sustainability at the Carbon Free Group and he’ll be looking at whether sustainability is still an option or a necessity for business.

“We have around 450 businesses registered with metnet and they’ve told us that they want to learn more about how to market their business. So we’re delighted to welcome Chris Perks, a leading name in digital marketing, who works with companies including the BBC, Carlsberg and Experian.

“And we will also be joined by broadcaster and journalist Tom Heap, the principal voice of Radio 4’s Costing the Earth, the UK’s only dedicated environment series and a regular on Panorama and Countryfile.”

Visitors to the conference also have the opportunity to attend seminars and workshops during the day. Topics on offer include improving sales techniques; the legislative and insurance consequences of an onsite incident and an update on funding and support for small businesses.

An update on the Green Deal/ECO in Worcestershire will also feature as part of the packed programme, which includes networking opportunities and lunch.

Companies wishing to find out more about the conference, and to register to attend, should visit the events section at www.met-net.co.uk, or email patricia@met-net.co.uk
