SCC completes giant media wall at ICC

SCC has completed the installation of a giant media wall at the International Convention Centre (ICC) Birmingham, boosting the venue’s status as a state-of-the-art convention centre welcoming over 350 events and more than 300,000 delegates each year.

Designed, supplied, installed and configured by SCC’s specialist Visual Communications division, the 14m² wall - which can be used to display multiple videos and imagery - is already in use, displaying dynamic content and sponsorship information for a diverse range of clients including Birmingham City’s Annual Awards Dinner, the British Orthopaedic Association and The X Factor.

Ian Scott, SCC Director of Unified Communications, said visitors from across the world would see its highly visible project at the ICC.

He said: “Not only is it one of the biggest media walls to be installed in a UK venue, but its deployment by the ICC as a commercial advertising and engagement platform provides a great example of how audio visual technology will increasingly be used to supplement the commercial opportunities used by public spaces.

“Constructing a 7m x 2m media wall would have been a challenge at ground level, but at the ICC the installation was designed to sit at a considerable height, making this a job we believe Isambard Kingdom Brunel would have been proud of.”

Installed in the ICC’s registration area, the media wall comprises 18 HD LCD 55 inch Samsung screens, creating a 7m x 2m display surface. Adding a new element to traditional event branding, its enables clients to have multiple forms of content displayed at any one time, without being restricted by specific screen dimensions.

ICC clients can choose to access a range of options, from booking a static welcome slide in the screen’s centre to providing moving content from multiple inputs.

Clients opting for exclusive use have had templates created allowing them to display a combination of welcome messages, event timings, social media feeds and promotional videos, in addition to providing partners with sponsorship opportunities.

Content can also be created using multiple themes, allowing screen content to be scheduled to change and refresh throughout an event.

Darren Shipley, SCC Commercial Regional Sales Manager, added: “With video marketing and social media now a central component of modern business communications, demand for versatile audio visual systems capable of displaying rich media messaging continues to accelerate, and such installations are fast becoming a standard feature of credible commercial venues.”

Brian Dobson, Head of Operations for the ICC, said: “It’s a cost effective way for our clients to present time specific and tailored content that seamlessly coincides with their event schedule. It adds an extra element of professionalism and shows the client to be at the forefront of the latest in conferencing technology.”
