Nourish me now

Natural sports drink scores Sheffield United success

‘NouriSH me now’ has been selected to support Sheffield United players with their nutrition, training and sports recovery strategy.

The Sheffield-based company, which manufactures fresh ready-made, and dairy-based, sports recovery drinks, now supplies 500 bottles a month to the League One club’s first team and the under 18s training at Sheffield United’s Redtooth academy.

The product was co-founded and launched in 2011 by Rachel Smith, from Ecclesall, a retail expert with more than 10 years’ experience working for a major high street brand, and Lynwen Harrison, from Nether Green, a Team GB age-group triathlete and physiotherapist.

Rachel Smith, Co Director of nouriSH me now (pictured) said: “Sheffield United recognises the value of natural-based products to sports recovery as a potential aid to injury prevention.”

“The evidence for dairy based protein supporting athletic performance and recovery is well founded and exciting. We believe that there is no substitute for real food to aid recovery from training.”

She added: “Due to our national and local links with academics who work in nutrition we have a bank of expertise to offer teams and individuals who use nouriSH me now. The first team and academy players are using our product after every match at home and away. We are delighted to have started working with them.”

Nick Cox, Academy Manager, Sheffield United FC, said: “NouriSH me now are a fantastic match for the Academy. There is a lot of synergy between the two organisations – both are proud of their local roots but at the same time share a passion for the development of people and striving for the pursuit of excellence.”

“We hope our partnership will be about more than just the product alone but also a sharing of ideas and knowledge around elite performance.”

NouriSH me now has been awarded the prestigious Made in Sheffield quality mark of approval. The company - recently shortlisted for a Made in Sheffield Business Entrepreneurial award - sponsor a selection of Sheffield-based high profile sports stars.

They include the Paralympian table tennis player David Wetherill; the silver medallist paratriathlete Steve Judge; one of the best amateur triathletes in the world Catherine Faux; nationally acclaimed climber Neil Mawson; a rising star in the running world, Will Beauchamp; triathlete Elliot Smales and up and coming junior triathlete and newly signed heptathlete Karla Drew.

Nourish me now was selected as the official drink for the British Transplant Games held in Sheffield earlier this year.
