Opticians look for children with specs appeal

A family-run chain of North East opticians has launched a search for children with stars in their eyes.

Wade Opticians is running a competition to find the children who will become the ‘Young Faces of Wade’ in 2014.

Starting on Saturday (November 16) at its Ryton branch, the company is inviting any child aged 16 and under to come in to get their photograph taken wearing designer glasses provided by Wade Opticians. You don’t already have to wear glasses to enter.

Photo-shoots will then also take place at Wade practices in Yarm, Durham and Darlington, before all the pictures are uploaded to the Wade Facebook page where those who ‘like’ the page will vote for their favourites to make the short-list.

A professional judging panel will then pick the winners in December.

There are four age categories – 0-2, 3-6, 6-12 and 12-16 – and the winner of each category will win a professional photo-shoot, with their images will then be used on promotional material throughout 2014.

Kirsty Wade, who runs Wade Opticians with her father Alastair and brother Alex, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young children in the North East to become the face of Wade Opticians for 2014.

“Aside from winning some fantastic prizes, their pictures will be displayed in all our practices and on our promotional material and who knows, this may even be their first step on the road to a modelling career!

“The competition is free and open to anyone aged 16 and under, whether they wear spectacles or not, so we are looking forward to welcoming everyone to get their photographs taken at our practices over the coming weeks.”

Anyone who would like to enter their child for the competition can take them into the following practices and dates, between 10am and 4pm:

Saturday, November 16: Unit 1, Parsons Drive, Ryton. Saturday, November 23: High Street Yarm (Rees & Wade) Saturday, November 30: 8 Saddler Street, Durham Saturday, December 7: 26 Post House Wynd, Darlington (Rees & Wade)
