Northumberland company wins three awards at the British Travel Awards 2013
Northumberland-based tour operator, The Activity Travel Company, has picked up three awards at the prestigious British Travel Awards.
The company, based in Stannington, won Best Small Holiday Company (Family) and Best Small Holiday Company (Activity/Sports), and The Aurora Zone won Best Small Holiday Company (Adults Only) at the ceremony in London.
Comments Alistair McLean, founder of Activities Abroad and The Aurora Zone, “For a company operating out of a converted farmhouse in rural Northumberland, this is a remarkable achievement. I couldn’t be more grateful to our team, our suppliers and our obviously very content customers, who kindly voted for us. We’ve all worked so hard to achieve something truly special whilst sticking to our responsible and social business ethos, and these awards are a fitting reward. It’s simply great.”
Based in Stannington, The Activity Travel Company was created by local entrepreneur Alistair Mclean and has now been running for eleven years. The Activity Travel Company consists of three brands: Activities Abroad, The Aurora Zone and The White Circle.
Activities Abroad specialises in family activity holidays in both winter and summer. The Aurora Zone was created to give clients the very best chance of seeing the spectacular Northern Lights and highlights the innovative concept of Aurora-hunting (actively going out to seek the lights rather than remaining in one location) it provides holidays across Finland, Sweden, Norway and Iceland. The White Circle is the latest addition to the portfolio, and offers adult-only winter experiences for adults in Scandinavia.
British Travel Awards’ chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said: “This year more than one million votes were cast by consumers to determine the winners of the coveted British Travel Awards – making it the largest awards programme in the UK; to win is truly an accolade. The travelling public regard the British Travel Awards winners logo as the benchmark for excellence when it comes to finding out who really are the best travel companies – the winners really are the best in travel.”
The British Travel Awards is a proudly independent organisation, audited by leading global accountancy practitioners Deloitte. The BTAs are the only travel industry accolades voted for exclusively by the travelling public, and the Awards serve to recognise all that is great about UK travel companies.
