Employment law gets dramatic at live performance hosted by Gateley and Contact

Gateley has brought employment law to life with a live theatre performance in conjunction with Contact Theatre as part of the CIPD annual conference in Manchester.

The top 50 law firm worked with Contact’s Creative Experts to make key topics in employment law more accessible and engaging for North West employers. Together, they developed three short stage plays for conference delegates that illustrated real-life employment issues, including recent legal developments, disciplinary investigations and unfair dismissal claims.

Following each performance, the plays were then opened up to an audience of HR professionals for an informal question and answer session with legal experts from Gateley’s award-winning employment team.

Michael Ball, employment partner at Gateley and board member for Contact – the Manchester-based arts charity – said: “Employment issues are a primary concern for UK businesses, whatever their sector or specialism. Following the success of last year’s event, we wanted to work with Contact’s Creative Experts to deliver the latest legal developments and strategies to HR professionals in what we hope was an innovative and appealing way.”

Contact’s Creative Experts are a team of professionally-trained facilitators who deliver workshops, creative projects and consultancy for a number of local authorities, schools, business and organisations.

Kieran Seymour, creative services co-ordinator at Contact, said: “It is brilliant that a firm like Gateley has the vision to see the value that performance can bring in making complex legal points accessible and engaging. We were uniquely placed to deliver the project as our team are adept at using arts methodology in a range of business settings to analyse and explore different issues.”

Thirty CIPD delegates attended the unique event on 6 November at Gateley’s King Street offices to gain insight on the latest developments in employment law and see relevant scenarios acted out in real time.
