Four Tees pubs saved after takeover

The future of four well-known Teesside pubs has been secured after a package deal to sell off a number of sites.

Administrators for Bramwell Pubs and Bars, Zolfo Cooper, have confirmed the sale of the Blue Bell hotel in Acklam, Middlesbrough, the Stapylton Arms on High Street, Eston, The Fairfield in Stockton and the Ketton Ox in Yarm.

Luton-based Stonegate Pub Company has purchased a total of 78 sites owned by Bramwell, which was plunged into administration on October 31, in a move that should secure around 1,700 jobs nationally.

Administrators will continue to trade the remaining Bramwell sites - including the Griffin on Bader Avenue, Thornaby, the Yellow Rose on Roman Road, Middlesbrough, and Hoskins in Blackwellgate, Darlington - while “exploring opportunities to achieve going concern sales”.

The Bramwell group originally comprised 185 pubs and bars across the UK employing 3,300 staff.

Peter Saville, partner at Zolfo Cooper, said: “We are extremely pleased to have secured the sale of this significant number of units to Stonegate and we wish Stonegate and the staff all the best for the future.

“Our focus now is on working to secure futures for the remainder of the estate and we continue to invite parties wishing to make an expression of interest in these sites to contact ZolfoCooper.”
