Sunderland Makers Market returns
As Sunderland continues to evolve as a hub of creativity, more and more creative individuals and small businesses are joining forces to contribute to creative events in and around the city.
For the third time this year, 11 local businesses will come together at the Sunderland Makers Market on Friday November 22, in Market Square, Sunderland, to sell a selection of products from paintings, prints and photographs to glass, ceramics, as well as some delicious food from culinary specialists based in Sunderland.
Sunderland City Council’s Business and Investment Team, in association with Sunderland Live has established the market as a means of creating business opportunities for creative industries in the city. The creative businesses involved include, Creative Cohesion (glass, ceramics and fine art), Deborah Cauchi Fine Arts, Juniper’s Pantry Fine Food Delicatessen and Infinite Arts (kites and upcycled art) as well as many more independent traders.
The market is coordinated by Event Producer, Lesley Cooperwaite who said: “The Makers Market is really helpful to the local creative businesses, not only as a platform to show their work but to also raise awareness of Sunderland’s talented artists and makers.
“They also provide an opportunity for shoppers to purchase items direct from the people that made them. So far the Makers Markets have been a great success and have helped many of our businesses.”
Deborah Cauchi owner of Deborah Cauchi Fine Arts and a seller at the market, said: “ The Sunderland Makers Market is great news for the city’s creative scene as it really does open people’s eyes to the wide variety of creative talent in the city. Having participated in the market on numerous occasions, my own experiences have always been extremely positive. I am looking forward to showcasing my artwork once again. The market always attracts a great crowd, and it is always good to interact with the other artists and makers.“
Other unusual finds amongst the 11 stalls expected to attend include kites and kite kits from Infinite Arts, Smell Me scented arts from Shelley Louise Design, and Louise Garbutt’s stall will have an array of eye-catching home made products.
With Christmas fast approaching the Sunderland Makers Market offers the public the perfect opportunity to purchase a wide range of unusual and one off gifts, with a variety of prices to suit all budgets. The market will run from 10am-4pm and with 500 to 1000 people having attended the last two events, this forthcoming market is also set to attract a large crowd.
