Grand National boss crowned Man of the Year at Livercool Awards
The annual Livercool Awards – which celebrate the region’s leading decision makers and business leaders – has chosen Jockey Club North West regional director John Baker as Man of the Year.
As well as the Crabbies Grand National and Aintree Racecourse, John is also responsible for Haydock Park and Carlisle racecourses and since his appointment earlier this year he has worked to engage with the business community in the region to maximise the economic benefits the racecourses bring to the wider regional economy.
After receiving the award at a glittering ceremony hosted by organisers Downtown Liverpool in Business at the Crowne Plaza, John praised his team for their support.
“There have been a lot of changes this year and we have all worked hard to ensure that our racecourses remain among the best in the country,” he said. “We are also responsible for one of the biggest annual sporting events on the British calendar – the Grand National.
“The nation may stop for the Grand National but we are all systems go right now. Ticket sales are already well underway at www.thecrabbiesgrandnational.co.uk and preparations for the race began months ago so we can make sure that the 2014 Grand National is the best yet.”
Frank McKenna, chief executive of Downtown Liverpool in Business, said: “The Livercool Awards are all about celebrating those who have made an extra special impression on the city region economy in the past year.
“As head of the region’s flagship racecourses, John is a worthy Livercool Man of the Year.
“It’s incredible that over six hundred million people see our City through the televising of the Grand National each year, and it’s also incredible to see the impact that John has had on further improving the festival in such a short space of time. I’m sure that the view of the Grand National and Liverpool City Region will only get better and better under his leadership.”
