DHL boost for Airport City

Manchester’s £800m Airport City project has received a major boost with logistics firm DHL announced as the first firm to confirm its presence.

The company will house 150 staff at a purpose-built site set to form part of a World Logistics Hub at the development.

DHL has signed a pre-let deal with Manchester Airports Group to move into a 37,308 sq ft site at Airport City South, near Junction Six of the M56.

DHL said the decision to move to the flagship development was in response to a growing demand for British goods overseas, leading to UK firms needing to ship more products abroad, particularly to emerging markets like China.

The firm will relocate from its current base in Trafford Park. The DHL centre will offer points for the drop-off and collection of goods for delivery overseas.

DHL chief executive Phil Couchman said: “Our investment in this state of the art facility is reflective of the demand for British-made goods overseas.
