Safe driving in the winter weather
With the winter upon us and the recent memories of being caught out (well, we get caught out every year don’t we?), it’s worth taking a little time to put a few precautions in place now rather than saying “I wish I had…” later!
The first thing to do is a regular maintenance check to ensure that your car is ready for the winter ahead. Regular servicing helps but things like checking tyre pressures, oil and water levels, and washer bottle levels are easy ways to avoid unnecessary troubles later. It is also worth having a few items in the car such as a spade, blanket and torch. Also, items like mobile phone chargers are incredibly important as you never know when you will get stuck and how long you might be there.
There are also some things businesses need to consider such as route planning in bad weather, knowing where your vehicles are and that your drivers are safe, and that deliveries are getting through. When bad weather hits, routes that delivery drivers normally use may need to be re-planned, particularly if the routes involve B roads or roads that won’t be treated as a priority. Being able to optimise delivery routes so that untreated roads are not used and problematic situations can be avoided. It also offers an extra level of customer service if you can tell them exactly where their deliveries are and when they are likely to get them if the weather turns nasty. A vehicle tracking system can provide all of these key benefits as well as saving you money on fuel, tax and maintenance costs. More information is available at www.navstar.co.uk
Whatever the weather does this winter, make sure you drive safely and take a few of the points above on-board – it makes sense to plan for the worst but hope for the best!
