Glitzy awards night marks 100th year
The top employees of bus operator Go North East are set to be celebrated in a special ceremony to mark 100 years since the company was incorporated.
Over the past few weeks, 2,000 staff have been nominating their peers for a series of annual awards including Driver of the Year, Apprentice of the Year, Unsung Hero, Excellence in Customer Service and Best Employee.
A glittering event to present the winners with their accolades will take place at the Centre for Life in Newcastle on Friday 29 November - which is the same date Go North East was incorporated, one century ago.
The awards night has been revamped and given an added sprinkling of excitement to ensure it lives up to the significance of this important milestone. Staff will enjoy an interactive evening that includes a three course dinner. Special guests, Real Radio’s DJs Gary and Lisa, will present the accolades.
As well as written nominations from staff, the hundreds of customer comments the company receives will also be used to identify the very best deliverers of excellent customer service.
Kevin Carr, managing director, Go North East said: “We have made the awards event bigger and better than ever before because we believe there is no better way of marking this high point in the company’s history than by honouring the achievement of our employees. Without such loyal, committed people we wouldn’t be where we are today.”
Go North East started 100 years ago with a small number of buses and is now the largest bus operator in the north east, with a fleet of 670 buses and over 2,000 staff. It carries over 72 million people every year and covers Tyne & Wear, County Durham, Northumberland and Teesside.
Go North East is doing a number of activities to mark a century of getting north east people from A to B. The firm has commissioned a book which will be a people’s history of the company. A children’s book for 5-6 year olds has also been created.
