Jimmy celebrates another 40th anniversary

A leading Sunderland company celebrated its 40th anniversary this week with the help of a Sunderland legend.

Jimmy Montgomery joined Grundfos staff at their Castletown plant to celebrate the occasion and cut a 40th anniversary cake.

The Danish company which specialises in pumps was established in Wearside in 1973 in the same year that Monty made his memorable double save in a dramatic FA Cup Final, which saw Sunderland lift the FA Cup for only the second time in their history.

Former goalkeeper and Ambassador of Sunderland AFC, Jimmy said; “It’s great that the 40th anniversary of the FA Cup victory over Leeds United isn’t the only thing the city has to celebrate this year.

“It’s fantastic to see a leading international company celebrating such a significant milestone in Sunderland.

“I really enjoyed meeting with the staff and chatting to them about their time at Grundfos. I was amazed that a couple of staff had been there nearly from the beginning!”

Lee Carlin, Managing Director, said; “It was an honour to welcome Jimmy Montgomery to our Sunderland site and to show him around the plant and introduce him to our staff. They were all thrilled he was there to share the day with us.

“We employ close to 200 members of staff at Grundfos in Sunderland and many of them are passionate SAFC supporters so we felt Jimmy was the perfect choice to join us to celebrate such a special occasion.

“We’re proud of being a Sunderland firm and have established some fantastic relationships with the community over the past forty years.”

Grundfos is the global leader in advanced pump solutions, a pioneer in water technology and one of Sunderland’s most favoured and respected employers. The company recently won a North of England Excellence Award for Sustainability.
