Neville Johnson doubles sales over four years

Manchester-based bespoke furniture manufacturer Neville Johnson is on schedule to achieve sales of £33m in its current year, which is over double the sales for the year ended 30 April 2010.

The company, which is headquartered in Trafford Park, has over that period alsodoubled the size of the workforce from 200 in 2010 to currently more than 400 staff and has plans to repeat this performance over the next four years.

Part of the growth has been down to the firm’s acquisition of Tom Howley, which specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of luxury fitted kitchens. At the time of the acquisition, Tom Howley was operating from three showrooms with a presence in Altrincham, Alderley Edge and Esher, Surrey.

It has since opened a flagship showroom on Wigmore Street incentral London as well as other stores in Brentwood, Essex and Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire and as a result of seen its sales expand from £1.5m to £8m. There are plans to roll-out the brand nationally and take sales to £30m which will make it the UK market leader in the high-end kitchen sector.

Neville Johnson Group was established in 1986, and in 2008 kick-started its vision of becoming the leading provider of luxury fitted furniture for every room in the home, following investment from Key Capital Partners (KCP).

Nigel Pailing, CEO of Neville Johnson, said: “In the face of the worst downturn in living memory we have been able to double the size of the business. We have done this through organic growth, the launch of our staircase renovation business and the successful openings of our new Tom Howley showrooms. This is just the start for our kitchen business as we believe there is huge potential for the brand.”

Peter Armitage, partner at KCP and non-executive director at Neville Johnson, added: “UK manufacturing is experiencing a resurgence at the moment. We are seeing a number of businesses turning away from China and other low-cost countries to capitalise on the quality and craftsmanship that has been a fundamental part of the UK for many centuries. Tom Howley kitchens and Neville Johnson furniture has always been made in Britain and will continue to remain here as the group expands and strengthens its operations.”
