Rubens coffee shop comes to Albert Dock

Albert Dock has agreed a deal with North West-based, independent coffee chain, Rubens, to convert two units totalling 1,800 sq/ft at the Dock into one of its popular, artisan coffee shops, with a 10 year lease. Rubens has spent £70,000 on refurbishing the units, which will become the company’s fifth shop.

Located in the heart of Albert Dock on The Colonnades, a 19th century, Grade 1 Listed former warehouse building which is also home to Tate Liverpool, Rubens will serve artisan coffees with locally-roasted beans, locally-made toasted panini’s and sandwiches, and award-winning cakes, pastry’s and muffins, employing a staff of 10.

Neil Kenyons, general manager, said:

“We chose Albert Dock as the home of our new shop because the area is rich in history and has drastically changed over the years to become an iconic and thriving part of Liverpool. With the opening of ACC Liverpool, the Wheel Of Liverpool and the other improvements to the dock area, Albert Dock’s location on the city’s waterfront is ideal, and we feel Rubens will be very successful there.”

Graham Cook, director of Albert Dock Company, said:

“Rubens will further enhance Albert Dock’s fantastic visitor offer, which already boasts a wide range of gift shops, bars and restaurants, and world-class attractions such as the Beatles Story, Tate Liverpool and the Merseyside Maritime Museum. Rubens will continue to cement our status as the most visited tourist attraction in the Liverpool city region.”

Rubens prides itself on the relaxing, cosy atmosphere of its shops, designed with the customer in mind, and boasting comfortable leather tub chairs and sofas to allow visitors to chill out while enjoying its premium coffee blend.

Rubens opened its first store in 2009 in West Kirby, followed in 2010 with its Heswall branch, and in 2012 with its third store in Mold, North Wales. In October this year Rubens opened a branch in Bromborough, Wirral.

Rubens at Albert Dock is set to open to customers on December 15.
