C & A lights the way at stables
A North East livery stables has become a brighter place to visit thanks to a new energy efficient lighting scheme.
C & A Pumps and Engineering installed the new system at Field House Farm stables at Greatham, near Hartlepool.
The dusk-till-dawn lights which operate on motion sensors are expected to bring significant savings to the farm, particularly during the darker winter months.
Alan Roberts, Managing Director of C & A Pumps and Engineering, said: “We keep our own horse, North, at the stables, so we knew how busy it can get; particularly with owners and their families visiting throughout the day.
“The previous lighting and electrical system was very unreliable which wasn’t great once the clocks went back. It’s a working farm so you want it to be well lit and safe for all the people visiting their horses.”
C & A Pumps fitted new lights throughout the stables including floodlighting for an indoor and outdoor arena as well as at a facility where calves are reared until they are yearlings.
The Hartlepool-based business, which also provides lighting for Sedgefield Racecourse, estimates the energy efficient lights will generate an 84 per cent saving over their lifetime.
Mr Roberts added: “The new lights have a life span of 60,000 hours which should last for seven or eight years. But because they only come on when someone is walking through the stables, it generates energy savings too.
“The previous system meant that people were often walking through the stables in darkness but the new scheme makes it a much more attractive environment.”
Geoffrey Hutchinson, who owns the stables at Field House Farm, added: “The lights have been a welcome addition. We can have more than 40 horses here at any one time, so there’s always people and vehicles coming and going to feed and clean them.
“We want the stables to be as safe and welcoming as we can and thanks to these new lights, we have achieved that.”
