New homes plan revealed for sought-after Coventry site

The country’s leading house builder has revealed plans for new homes in a sought-after area on the edge of Coventry.

Persimmon Homes says it wants to build 41 new homes on the 2.4 acre site at Binley.

The development will feature a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes on a parcel of undeveloped land on Skipworth Road around 3.5 miles from the city centre.

Persimmon has lodged plans for the site with Coventry City Council and has already pledged to provide cash to help boost play facilities in the area if it wins planning permission.

Richard Oldroyd, managing director of Persimmon Homes South Midlands, said the development would be known as Binley Place.

“This is an exciting development in a most desirable location on the fringe of Coventry,” he said.

“Our plans include homes to suit a range of buyers, from those looking to get on the property ladder for the first time to families seeking more space as they grow.

“The area has terrific motorway links and is close to local shops and amenities, so offers something for everybody.

“We have already made a commitment to provide funding for off-site play should we gain planning permission and are in discussions with the council about other ways we can help provide facilities for the area.”

Richard said Persimmon had distributed a leaflet to existing residents to inform them of its plans for the site before submitting its planning application to the council.

Binley has developed from a small mining village into a flourishing suburb over the last 50 years, since the closure of its colliery in 1963.It has at its heart the 240-year-old St Bartholomew’s Church which was consecrated in 1772.
