Cruise firm return to Tyne next year bringing 1,400 passengers a time
Essex cruise firm, Cruise and Maritime Voyages (CMV), are coming back to the North East with their Marco Polo ship.
The firm plan to operate five cruises from the Port of Tyne, including routes to St. Petersburg and Baltic capitals; Norway and the Arctic Circle - and say each cruise will bring a total of 1,400 people to the Port.
Mike Hall, head of Marketing at CMV, said: “We have no doubt that our ship Marco Polo will be popular. We have enjoyed a very successful time cruising from Newcastle. Our customer feedback in the North East shows that a convenient port of departure is a key factor in choosing a cruise holiday.
“Just like Discovery, Marco Polo offers a similar country house hotel style experience that Cruise and Maritime Voyages are well known for.”
1.7 million Brits went cruising last year which, equating to one in eight of those who went a booked holiday, according to industry body Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).
The European cruise industry employs roughly 315,000. CMV say North East hoteliers, transport firms and retailers will all benefit from the routes.
