It all adds up to success for Cheshire accountant's new business

A Cheshire businesswoman has taken everything into account in starting up her new firm.

Susheila Cox, who is based in High Legh, recently founded SKC Accounting with the help from one of the UK’s largest providers of free business support, Blue Orchid. The firm provides a variety of accounting services to small businesses and new start ups, including tax compliance and book balancing.

Having been a qualified accountant for 20 years, working with numerous organisations from small businesses to FTSE 100 companies, Susheila elected to set up on her own after being made redundant and realising she wanted the flexibility that being self-employed offers. She was provided with initial guidance and advice on her business plan from Blue Orchid, while also receiving support from the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

She was allocated her own personal Blue Orchid business advisor who provided one-to-one support and also referred Susheila to a company which could help her design her business’ website. She also attended various Blue Orchid workshops for start-ups, including those covering subjects such as business planning and social media.

In addition, she was advised to join the Trafford Business Network and set up her own Facebook group – with both of these ideas allowing Susheila to talk to others who were setting up their own businesses and in a similar position to her.

With SKC Accounting now up and running, Susheila is seeing business steadily increasing. A working mum, she is based at home but visits clients when necessary. Looking into the future, she hopes to see a continuing flow of new business – including a good selection of start-ups – and potentially an expansion of her company in years to come.
