Chippindale Foods unveils £4.2 million specialist egg grading and packing facility

Yorkshire-based family business Chippindale Foods has invested in a multi-million pound 55,000 sq ft purpose-built production facility to handle the growing demand for its free range eggs.

The third generation family-run company, which has over 80 years’ experience of supplying free range eggs, has doubled its space after relocating production from the company’s previous 25,000 sq ft Harrogate base to its new state-of-the-art site in Flaxby, near Knaresborough.

Chippindale Foods has also invested in a specialist egg grading machine that will allow the company to significantly increase its output to over one million eggs per day.

This major investment by Chippindale Foods follows a successful year for the company, which has seen its latest brand of eggs – ‘Free Rangers’ secure a series of national supermarket listings, and forms part of the company’s strategy to increase turnover by 50 percent over the next three years and grow its workforce.

Nick Chippindale, Managing Director of Chippindale Foods, said: “2013 was a hugely successful year and with demand continuing to grow for our free range eggs, the relocation to our new purpose-built site in Flaxby will offer us the additional space we need now, while also providing room for further expansion as we secure new contracts.

“In addition to offering an enhanced facility that will allow us to further streamline our operations, our new location close to the A1 also allows us to reduce delivery times.”

Further to offering a larger and improved temperature controlled packing environment, the new premises also house a quality assurance testing area, a custom-built demonstration kitchen, meeting and training rooms, office space and an improved logistics area all under one roof.

Established in 1930 Chippindale Foods has evolved from a working farm in Harrogate and now employs 40 people. The family company specialises in egg grading, packing, and distribution to both the food retail and food service sectors, including many of the UK’s leading supermarkets.
