North East tops UK regions for RGF round 5 bidding
The North East is the highest bidding region for Round 5 of the Regional Growth Fund (RGF) money.
Statistics published by the Government show the region bid for £97.6 million in funding across 17 projects and programmes, attracting 15% of the UK total.
Second place in the table was occupied by the North West, which bid for £81.1 million of funding for 24 projects and programmes.
Round 5 of the RGF has been almost exclusively centered on capital funding, meaning competition for training or research and development funding has been especially strong.
A report on progress of the RGF rounds 1 and 2, published simultaneously, indicated North East funding predominantly went into the automobile and aerospace, and energy sectors.
Round 6 of the RGF will be launched in the summer this year.
