Why rent when you can buy in Basingstoke?

Hard-pressed Brits are being forced to rent for an average of four years before they can afford to buy their first home, new research from Britain’s biggest house builder shows.

However Sharon Eldred, head of sales at Persimmon Homes Southern, says that contrary to the statistics, first time buyers may be able to purchase a new property for less than they would pay to rent a comparable property in the area.

Buyers looking at a two bedroom ‘Silchester House’ apartment for £179,950 at Sherborne Fields could move in using Help to Buy with only a 5% deposit with mortgage repayments of just £139* a week, a healthy 30% less than the average £203* a week to rent a similar property in the area.

Buyers have the security of owning their own home with the luxury of extras including an en suite to the master bedroom and parking as standard on their new home.

Sharon Eldred, head of sales at Persimmon Homes Southern, said: “Our national pride in owning our own homes remains undiminished – many people still harbour ambitions to invest their hard-earned cash into owning their own bricks and mortar.

“With the long-term forecast indicating that rent will continue to go up, there is no better time to invest in a new home.

“Using the Government-backed Help to Buy scheme, NewBuy and the Persimmon part exchange schemes, our sales advisors can help prospective purchasers take that all-important step on to the property ladder and start investing in their own futures.”

Sherborne Fields is a development of two bedroom apartments and two, three and four bedroom homes on Aldermaston Road in Basingstoke offering a vibrant new community just outside the market town of Basingstoke, ideal for commuters and families alike.

The development is situated close to convenient transport links including Basingstoke Railway station less than three miles away offering journey times into London in under an hour. In addition to fantastic rail links, the M3 motorway which provides quick and easy links into London, the south east and the south coast is just minutes away.

The facilities and leisure attractions in Basingstoke town centre are on the doorstep and there are several primary and secondary schools and two further education colleges.

Sharon adds: “Buyers reserving at this stage of the development are also enjoying the benefits of buying off plan, not least, the opportunity to choose their preferred property and plot within the development. Buying early also offers buyers the added luxury of personalising their home and putting their own individual mark on the property by specifying interior flooring and tiles or choosing from a range of finishing touches and additional fixtures and fittings.”
