J & B Recycling staff incentive
An innovative marketing campaign has helped a recycling company engage its staff to win new business.
J & B Recycling set its 150 staff a challenge of bringing in potential leads for new business that could be followed up on by the firm’s sales team.
Each staff member who brought in leads then had their name entered into a monthly draw to win a bonus in their pay packet.
The scheme proved a hit when it was trialled last month with several strong leads generated and a £50 bonus for J & B Recycling’s Trevor Marsden, who works as a driver.
Vikki Jackson-Smith, managing director at J & B Recycling, said: “Many of our contracts are with shops, restaurants and bars, so we knew that our staff may be able to identify new targets that we weren’t aware of before.
“Any company needs to be winning new business especially in the waste management sector which is very competitive. We want to engage all our employees to be involved with that process and hopefully it will make them feel they are making a big contribution to the success of J & B Recycling.”
The campaign works by providing staff with a simple marketing leaflet about J & B Recycling that can be passed to potential customers. A tear-off slip is then returned to the sales team for follow up.
J & B Recycling, which won Hartlepool Business of the Year for the second time in 2013 and was also runner-up in the National Recycling Awards, hopes the campaign will generate significant leads in the coming months.
The company recycles more than 100,000 tonnes of waste a year for public and private sector clients including Middleton Grange Shopping Centre in Hartlepool, The Gate entertainment complex in Newcastle and software giant Sage UK’s headquarters.
Vikki added: “It’s a campaign that we are piloting but there have been some encouraging leads generated that our sales team are following up on. We have drivers, collection and delivery staff who are out all the time who could be picking up on new leads whether that’s a new shop opening, a pub refurbishment or a building site.
“You never know, it may be one of our drivers or picking team who bring in the next big contract.”
