Number of Mersey entrepreneurs on the rise according to study
The number of active businesses in Liverpool rose by 70 in 2013, according to the latest Entrepreneurs Index from Barclays and the Business Growth Fund.
There are now 9,770 firms in Liverpool. The report also shows that the North West region recorded the joint third highest increase in the number of enterprises in the UK. At 0.5% in the past year, the increase puts the region on an equal footing with East Anglia and just behind the traditionally strong South East (0.6%) and London (3.5%).
Overall, the proportion of the North West’s high-growth companies – mid-sized small firms recording a turnover of at least 33% in the past three years, as well as 10% year on year growth for a minimum of two of these years – has also shown an increase of 12% from 2011 to 2012
Alan Edwards, director, Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, Liverpool, said: “We are seeing many positive signs of strong entrepreneurial activity in Liverpool and a sense of renewed confidence.
“As British entrepreneurs are on target to start more than half a million new businesses this year alone it is clear to see that the new businesses in the area – and the individuals that set them up – are becoming an economic tour de force.”
