Asia Pacific contract could open maritime market for Proton Power Systems
Newcastle-registered fuel cell specialists Proton Power Systems have followed up their recent German success with a €290k contract win.
The Asia Pacific maritime deal will see Proton work on generating on-board power, and if successful, the firm say it could lead to orders for several hundred units.
Proton already has some experience in maritime fuel cell technology having operated the Alsterwasser tourist boat in Hamburg with such a system for the last five years.
The deal follows Proton’s success this week in winning road approval from the German authorities for the use of its HyRange System in buses and light vehicles.
John Wall, chairman of Proton, said: “This will be a milestone for us. Our know how in maritime fuel cell applications is proven and allows emission free operation. We look forward to receiving a significant order once the feasibility study is completed.
“The demand for emission free systems in Asia Pacific is growing dramatically and our expertise will allow solutions in maritime as well as mobile and stationary products for the Asia Pacific markets.”
