Restructuring boosts Stadium Group's Hartlepool operations
Restructuring at Hartlepool-based Stadium Group has put the firm in a strong position for growth over 2014, the CEO has told Bdaily.
The electronics specialists, who run manufacturing and their headquarters at Hartlepool, said they expect to report improved profits for their H2 2013 results - buoyed by closure of its underused Rugby factory.
Charlie Peppiatt become Stadium CEO in June 2013 and set about creating a “centre of excellence” in the North East - retaining business from the Rugby operations.
Over the last six months the firm has grown its workforce by around 70 and has revealed that a number of new contracts are being finalised.
Charlie explained to Bdaily: “Previously we had about 20% of our business in Hartlepool, but this has now risen to around 35%. The head office function and the centre of Stadium Group is very much in the North East now and we see Hartlepool as the heart of our operation.
“We’ve really beefed up engineering quality and procurement processes by bringing in some top management skills to the site.”
The firm estimate consolidation of its UK manufacturing into the Hartlepool site has made savings of £1 million a year.
Charlie added: “We’re really beginning to see the benefit of the restructure and, having revised up expectations last year, we’re in line to deliver those results for the second half of 2013.
“We’ve been looking at other sensible restructuring activity in a similar vein in Asia.
“The measures mean our customers are noticing improvements in the service and we’re now in the process of securing additional business from many of them.”
Stadium Group includes a Human Machine Interface business in Southampton that produces display technologies for electronic products; an electronic supply power business in Norfolk and manufacturing centres in China and Hong Kong.
