North East damp proofers complete major schools contract

North East damp proofing and timber specialists DTC landed a major contract to carry out specialist maintenance work at six Catholic schools in the region.

The Washington-based family business has taken on extra contract workers to get the job done.

The project was part of the company’s contract with the Hexham and Newcastle Diocese and the team had to work round the clock to complete the job.

Company director Neil Marsden said: “The diocese called on us because of our expertise in this particular area. Most of these buildings are old and need the specialist care and treatment that we provide.

“We operate a 12 man team but because of the time pressures and extra work, we took on an extra team of eight preferred contract workers to help get the job in on time.”

DTC (Damp Proofing and Timber Consultants Ltd) took over from Marsden Preservation, after managing director Neil Marsden decided to focus on the firm’s core expertise of property preservation, damp proofing, timber treatment, condensation control and waterproofing.

Neil has more than 27 years experience in damp proofing and preservation and is renowned in the industry as one of the UK’s leading professionals in the timber preservation sector. He was also recently made an honorary associate of the Institute of Specialist Surveyors and Engineers.

Neil is also proud to have his sons Neil and Anthony working in the family firm and his daughter Rachel runs the administration and office side of the business.

He said: “The focus of our business has always being to provide first class service coupled with expert knowledge and that is why we have such a good reputation in the field.

“All our surveyors have at least 25 years experience and are all fully qualified and having family involved ensures the high standards we have as a company never falter and are always met.”

The schools involved in the project were St Josephs School in Gateshead, St Leonards School in Durham, Our Blessed Lady and St Josephs in Leadgate, St Michaels School in Esh Winning and Seaton Sluice First School, Whitley Bay.
