Ouse turn is it for lunch?

Ouseburn’s favourite weekly lunch offer, Ouse Turn is it for Lunch?, returns to Toffee Factory for 2014.

The concept is a simple one: each week a different food vendor pitches up under the Glasshouse Bridge and, between 12 and 2pm, serves up freshly prepared street food to anyone who happens to be in the Valley.

Since its inception in May 2013, a vast range of traders, specialising in everything from American-style burgers to organic sprouting salads, have dished out thousands of meals to the locals.

Anna Hedworth, The Grazer, based in Ouseburn Valley, is one of many to enjoy the weekly offerings: “It’s great having such different fare on offer every week at the Toffee Factory, I always pop down if I’m in the office to try what’s being cooked up. There are lots of local favourites as well as new folk to the street food scene which is always nice to discover! ’

Run by Creative Space Management, Toffee Factory is home to numerous creative and digital companies and programmes cultural events throughout the year opening their doors to all. Having joined forces with dozens of Newcastle’s finest food purveyors, they’re also showing those naysayers who deem the pop up food industry as merely a passing trend that there is still a hunger for portable catering.

One particular trader who has built up a large following is Zapatista. “Team Zapatista really enjoys our regular ‘pop up’ appearances at the Toffee Factory which encourages the people of Ouseburn to get out of their offices and grab something a bit unusual for their lunch.”

The beauty of street food means that if you’re in a rush you can stroll down on your lunch break and grab something to go.

The Under the Arch February line up has been confirmed as Papa Ganoush, Blackfriars Fat Friars, Pizzette and Zapatista. So pick up some reasonably priced, hearty fare prepared for you by some of the City’s favourite foodies.
