Dancers bring good fortune to The Crabbie’s Grand National Festival as Year of the Horse dawns
Liverpool’s China Pearl dancers have visited the Red Rum statue at Aintree Racecourse to bring good fortune to The Crabbie’s Grand National Festival during the Chinese Year of the Horse.
Founder Fenfen Huang and dancers from China Pearl arts and culture organisation were given access to Aintree on the eve of Chinese New Year to perform a traditional dance designed to bring good luck for the year ahead.
“We were delighted to welcome the China Pearl dancers to Aintree,” said John Baker, Jockey Club North West Regional Director.
“The Chinese hold the horse in high regard as a magnificent creature of intelligence - it is a sentiment we share. The Crabbie’s Grand National is the ultimate test of horse and jockey.
“In the Year of the Horse The Crabbie’s Grand National is offering its biggest-ever prize pot – £1 million – and this April we are all looking forward to making this the most successful Grand National Festival ever.”
China Pearl will be performing a special Chinese New Year show including traditional 2,000 year old Chinese dance, classical Chinese dance, Chinese folk dancing and modern street dance at the Unity Theatre in Hope Place on Saturday, February 1 (8pm).
“To be able to come to the home of The Crabbie’s Grand National Festival to mark the Year of the Horse was a special opportunity,” said Fenfen.
“The Year of the Horse is believed to be one for entertainment, excitement and glamour, all things which are encapsulated in The Crabbie’s Grand National Festival.”
