Event firm’s ‘pride’ at latest contract win

One of the North East’s leading events organisations is bursting with ‘Pride’ after securing one of its biggest contracts to date.

1879 Events Management, the outside catering arm of SAFC, has been awarded a three-year deal to provide catering facilities at Newcastle Pride.

The event, now in its seventh year, is attended annually by members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community from across the UK.

In 2013, 1879 Events Management provided eight bar areas, five catering units and more than 150 staff to cater for a record attendance of 28,000 visitors.

This year Newcastle Pride is being extended from one to three days, with up to 65,000 visitors expected to attend a series of events at Newcastle’s Town Moor and Times Square on July 18, 19 and 20.

This will include a parade, 5k run and a host of live entertainment with full details yet to be announced.

Mark Nichols, Chair of Northern Pride which organisers the event, said: “We worked with 1879 Events Management in both 2012 and 2013 and are delighted to be continuing that relationship in 2014 and beyond.”

1879 Events Management, which also manages catering and events at both the Stadium of Light and National Glass Centre, Sunderland, was established in 2012 to offer expertise.

Since then it has catered for a wide range of large-scale gatherings, including the North East Business Teesside Awards at Teesside University, the 2012 Sunderland Retail Awards in the city’s Bridges Shopping Centre and the outdoor concert Sound Waves organised by South Tyneside Council, which featured a headline performance by McFly.

Gary Hutchinson, commercial director of SAFC and 1879 Events Management, said: “We are delighted to be working with the team from Northern Pride for the next three years.

“Newcastle Pride is a fantastic festival and something that we are hugely proud to be associated with, our involvement is not just about delivering a commercial service, it is about showing support for an event that celebrates and triumphs inclusivity, a core value that we embrace wholeheartedly.

“Events such as Newcastle Pride play such a huge part in the local economy and from a business sense it provides great exposure for our brand, making the economic benefits of supporting the event very valuable.”
