RDM targets £25m sales after unveiling new advanced engineering centre
One of Coventry’s fastest growing manufacturing firms has unveiled its new advanced engineering and vehicle build centre today, with the promise of creating 25 new jobs and bringing exciting new projects to the region.
RDM Group, which celebrates its 21st birthday earlier this year, has invested over £400,000 on acquiring an additional 20,000 sq ft facility on the Bilton Industrial Estate and fitting it out with 2 state-of-the-art CNC machines, 3 injection moulding machines, a 3-axis router, laser engraver, the latest CAD/CAM software and a dedicated area for vehicle conversions and builds.
Backed by support from Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP), the company expects to develop new business, repatriate sub-contracted production from China and promote its capability to produce special vehicles and low volume builds.
David Keene, Chairman of RDM Group, is optimistic for the future:
“During the last few years, our expert engineers have been increasingly involved in specialist projects that are taking vehicle design and technology to new levels.”
He continued: “We had reached a point where we knew we could win more work and lead on a host of new opportunities, but needed additional space that could support these ambitions.
“The facility adjacent to our current factory came available and, thanks to support from the LEP’s Growing Places fund, we were able to acquire the building and set out creating a purpose-built manufacturing centre.”
The new machinery and software means RDM Group can now offer precision machining, injection moulding, surface engraving, routing and world class prototyping services.
It has also set-up a traditional trim shop that will be able to cater for ‘one off’ specials right through to low/medium volume line side supply for a host of sectors.
Graham Keene, Finance Director at RDM, picked up the story: “We are expecting sales to rise from £6m to £10m in 2014, with a target of £25m by 2018…it sounds ambitious but we believe this investment gives us the platform to achieve it.
“Whilst automotive is our main area at the moment, we will also be looking to take our engineering solutions to customers involved in aerospace, marine and specialist trim.
“Another target will be to bring work back into the UK that may previously have been manufactured elsewhere.”
RDM Group, which currently employs 38 people, also boasts Telematics and Meditec divisions that provide cutting edge hardware/software solutions and innovative assisted living products respectively.
