Tyneside biometrics firm hunt business in Latin America
Tyneside-based biometrics firm ievo will accompany the Deputy Prime Minister on a trade mission to Colombia and Mexico this week.
The Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate business make finger print scanning security systems and have already been selling to the Mexican market.
Managing director Shaun Oaks travelled to the country in October 2013 after a UKTI trip to the US.
Shaun joins the Trade and Investment Minister, Lord Livingston; Mexico Trade Envoy, Baroness Bonham-Carter and UK industry such as HSBC and Rolls Royce, and North East banknote printers De La Rue on the visit.
In Mexico the party will meet with President Enrique Peña as the Deputy Prime Minister is expected to set out a target of £4.2 billion bilateral trade with the company by the end of 2015.
He said: “Following the OMIS report we had commissioned from UKTI, Mexico was pinpointed as one of the most lucrative markets for biometrics and this is complemented by the free trade agreements that Mexico has with the UK and EU, making it easier to export our products and really hone in on building relationships within that area and starting to make a brand presence out there.
“In fact, we have already signed up one of the largest security distributors in Mexico with help from UKTI and we are already starting to reap the rewards from that agreement. With more organisations suggested on the OMIS report this can only increase as we begin to explore the market further.”
