Rehab centre completes major investment project

Healthcare provider Keiro Group has invested £500k in its neuro, stroke and spinal-rehabilitation centre and nursing suite in Gateshead.

The significant outlay at Chase Park Neuro Centre has created several new jobs and will further improve care and quality standards at the organisation’s headquarters in Whickham.

The Centre, which encompasses Chase Park Rehabilitation Suite, Nursing Suite and Healthclub, is recognised as one of the leading neuro-rehabilitation facilities in the UK.

Keiro’s services assist adults with acquired injuries and complex conditions who require quality long term nursing care. Furthermore, it also supports other clients with the move back to independent living following a period of specialist rehabilitation.

The self-funded investment has allowed the organisation to create state-of-the-art nursing suite facilities, which will largely benefit clients that can’t move home, while also offering a competitive care option for NHS commissioners.

Viv Watson, managing director at Keiro Group, said: “Our site in Whickham has been our home for over 25 years and it is absolutely vital we continue to invest in our facilities, staff and services to ensure we keep ahead of the competition with regards to our services and always improving quality of care.

“The project we have just completed has seen a major overhaul of our nursing suite to ensure it is a well-equipped, comfortable and pleasant environment for clients who require long term nursing care provision.

“Furthermore, we have also invested heavily in our rehabilitation centre by developing a new kitchen to support clients develop their independent living skills in preparation for moving to living independently in the community.”

Keiro recently opened an additional neuro and spinal-rehabilitation centre in Middlesbrough that has become the first of its kind in the UK and will now help save the NHS millions of pounds whilst improving patient outcomes.

Known as ‘The Gateway’, the new £10m development opened in December and is currently creating 100 jobs. It has been developed to complement the NHS in terms of facilitating quicker discharge from hospital, reducing long term care costs and helping people live more independent lifestyles.

Viv added: “This refurbishment at Chase Park Neuro Centre combined with our new development in Middlehaven all adds up to a very exciting time for our organisation and everyone connected with what we do.”

Over the years, Keiro has developed close and successful partnerships with many charitable organisations such as Headway, the MS Society, Arthritis Care and the North East Motor Neurone Disease Trust.

The company is the driving force behind the award-winning annual Chase Park Festival, which is one of the most accessible festivals in the UK. It aimed at including people of all abilities and in helping break down cultural barriers and stereotypes often faced with people with disabilities.
